Therapeutic Lifestyle Change of Grand Junction
Therapeutic Lifestyle Change of Grand Junction
Therapeutic Lifestyle Change or TLC is a process of making small changes to your diet and adding specific exercises to improve strength and flexibility.
Chronic diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and stroke are responsible for most deaths in the U.S.A. Between 70% and 90% of these deaths are believed to be caused by poor nutrition, sedentary living, and tobacco use, and they are preventable. These lifestyle factors appear to play a prominent role in the development of many chronic diseases 1.
The largest reductions in chronic disease prevalence in the U.S.A. will be achieved when individuals adopt and maintain lifestyle choices that include a healthy diet and regular physical activity 2.
The above medical references are an indication of where my practice has evolved. I started my practice in January 1978 and my initial focus was on sports medicine and nutrition. I added acupuncture and genomic medicine in 2000. Now in 2009 I am specializing in teaching my patients the benefits of TLC in addition to my standard acupuncture, chiropractic, and nutritional practice.
My TLC practice consists of the following workflow:
1. Physical exam to determine weight, height, BMI, blood pressure, muscle strength, and joint range of motion.
2.Blood tests to determine cardiovascular risk, diabetes risk, and other chronic problems.
3.Saliva testing to determine male and female hormone status. Specifically we can measure estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, DHEA, and other hormones that regulate the sleep cycle.
4.Genetic testing to determine risk of Alzheimer’s disease, various cancers, heart disease, hypertension, stroke, emotional imbalance and numerous other health problems.
5.After all of the testing has been complete I will recommend a specific diet along with menus and information on how to cook properly.
6.Specific nutritional supplements will be prescribed to reduce your health risks based upon your blood tests.
7.I. V. nutritional therapy is available to immediateley re-establish normal blood levels of essential vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants.
8.Acupuncture, chiropractic, and active-release massage therapy are used to treat chronic pain, muscular stiffness, and poor joint range of motion.
9.A specific exercise program will be prescribed that consists of aerobic exercise and weight training. These exercises will increase your energy, physical strength, mental functions, and joint range of motion.
If you are 40 years old (or older), the time is now to get started with lifestyle changes that will improve your current level of health and prevent the chronic illnesses you may develop if you continue your current way of eating and living.
